My name is Othophi (also known as Sydney or Phi)
I’m a freelance artist creating artwork that strives to engage and generate pieces that the world can enjoy. I love exploring multiple fields of the art some of which is digital, traditional, design and even the occasional sculpture! Whether it be with a new art style, mixed-media, coloring style or my next jewelry piece; with every creation, I want my next piece to be better than my last. I’m highly influenced by old illustrators (like J.C Leyendecker), anime, and video games.
Now you might be thinking, what does Othophi stand for?
Before settling on the shorten version, Othophi, I originally went with the name “Othellophio”.
“Othello” as in Othello from the famous tragedy created by William Shakespeare.
And “Phi”, the 21st letter of the greek alphabet, that also represents the golden ratio, the unity of one and the perfection found in everything.
I was originally attracted to the sound of the name, I wasn’t even thinking on the possible meaning behind it. After someone brought to my attention that “Othello” may bare a negative connotations to my name, it gave me cause to look deeper into it. After looking into both of the individual meanings, the name couldn’t have resonated with me more.
While Othello represents tragedy and despair, Phi acts as the rebirth and the perfection in every situation. Together it shows how one can transcend even the most difficult situations no matter what you have gone through.
The Phoenix that rests on the phi in my logo is a reminder that after every struggle, after every hardship, one is bound to be rebirth in a new light.
To me it’s much more than just a pen name, but a life style I strive to live by.
